Mike Wickham was hired as Senior Associate Athletic Director for Business & Finance at Cal Poly in September 2025. In this role, he oversees the department’s business operations and leads enterprise-wide strategy focused on long-term financial sustainability, competitive investment, and operational excellence.
Wickham joined Cal Poly following four years at Fresno State, where he served as Senior Associate Athletic Director for Strategy, Innovation & Business Operations. A member of the senior leadership team, he led finance, analytics, and operational strategy, while serving as the primary liaison to campus leadership and the Athletic Corporation Board of Directors on strategic and financial matters. He also served as sport supervisor for baseball and football.
Prior to his transition into collegiate athletics, Wickham built a career spanning more than two decades in Major League Baseball. His experience includes roles with the Montreal Expos, San Diego Padres, Miami Marlins, Houston Astros, San Francisco Giants, and New York Mets. He is recognized for integrating advanced analytics with traditional scouting to support roster construction, player development, and long-term organizational strategy, while contributing to the management of budgets exceeding $120 million.
Wickham contributed to a World Series Championship and multiple playoff appearances, including helping build the Houston Astros’ competitive core, which advanced to seven consecutive American League Championship Series and four World Series appearances.
During his tenure at Fresno State, Wickham led a national search for the head baseball coach, driving immediate program success, including three consecutive conference tournament appearances and back-to-back Mountain West Championships in 2024 and 2025, culminating in the program’s first NCAA Tournament appearances since 2019.
A native of Stockton, California, Wickham earned his degree in accounting from North Park University in Chicago and is a Certified Public Accountant. He and his wife, Heidi, have two sons.
