Mustangs Fall to Fresno State in Overtime

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. –  A Fresno State goal near the end of the first overtime period sent the Mustangs to their fourth defeat of the season (6-4-1) while Fresno State improves to 5-3-2. Fresno State's Lauren Lindstrom picked up a rebound off a Brooke Gauvin save and placed it the net for the game winner. For Lindstrom it was her second goal of the season.

Gauvin had made a save off a shot by Tara Boynton, but could not corral the ball, leaving an open net for Lindstrom.

Fresno State opened the scoring in 5th minute when Fresno State's Callie Hancock picked off an errant pass by a Cal Poly defender and beat Gauvin one on one for the her fourth goal of the season.

The Mustangs tied the game going into the half in the 35th minute when Tiffany Gummow fired a shot off a feed from Cristina Farrington from the far left side, 25 yards out, into the right corner of the net.

Fresno State scored the fist goal of the second half in the 57th minute when Laura Dodd put one into the back off the net off a ball Gauvin defected.

The Mustangs tied the game in the 63rd minute when Gummow scored her second of the game and her fifth goal in four games when the Fresno State goalie was whistled for holding the ball to long.

Gummow took her shot just inside the 18 yard line and put it in top right corner of the net.

Overall Cal Poly outshot Fresno State 15-10 with each team placing six shots on goal.

Fresno State held a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks while Cal Poly was whistled for one more foul (10-9).

Cal Poly returns to the field on Friday, Sept. 30th when they open Big West Conference play at Alex G. Spanos Stadium at 7 pm.
