Steve Schlick is in his second year as a volunteer assistant coach for the Cal Poly beach volleyball team.
However, Schlick is no stranger to Cal Poly. Prior to being appointed to this position, he spent 21 years in the Cal Poly Athletics Department. He was originally hired in February 1996 as the Cal Poly Women’s Head Volleyball Coach, and served in that capacity until February 2005. At that time, he became the department’s Business Coordinator.
Steve has been involved at the NCAA Division I Athletics level for over 30 years, starting initially at Arizona State University, then on to the University of Notre Dame, and finally here at Cal Poly.
His coaching career spanned 17 seasons at the three universities and included nine entries into the NCAA Championships. He is the second winningest coach in Cal Poly volleyball history, amassing 135 career wins over his 9 seasons as head coach.
Schlick is a 1979 graduate of UC Santa Barbara with a bachelor's degree in physical education and earned his master's degree in Non Profit Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame in 1994.
He and his wife Barbara reside in Los Osos.
