Scott Cartwright is in his 19th season as head coach of the men's golf program, which was resurrected in 2000 and coached by Tom Moos for one year. Cartwright also served 12 seasons as the women's golf head coach from 2003-15.

A former golf pro at the San Luis Obispo Country Club, Cartwright guided the Mustang men's program to its first Big West Conference championship in 2006. He also coached former Mustang standout Travis Bertoni to 11 career wins, including the Big West individual title in 2005.

The 2008-09 Mustangs won two team championships -- Braveheart Classic hosted by UC Riverside and the Cal Poly Men's Intercollegiate at Cypress Ridge.

The 2009-10 squad won the Firestone Grill College Invitational as well as the Cal State Bakersfield Spring Invitational, but finished eighth in the Big West Conference Championships.

The 2010-11 squad earned first-place finishes in the Folino Invitational and Lamkin Grip Challenge (Cal Poly) along with a second and a third. The Mustangs finished fourth in the Big West Conference Championships.

Geoff Gonzalez won the Folino Invitational, placed seventh in the Big West finals and became the first Mustang to advance to the NCAA Division I National Championship.

The 2011-12 Mustang team earned third-place finishes in the Pat Hicks Invitational (St. George, Utah) and Lamkin Grip Match Play Challenge (Arroyo Grande, Calif.) and placed seventh in the Big West Conference Championships. The 2013-14 squad captured team titles in the Firestone Grill Cal Poly Invitational at Monarch Dunes and the Pat Hicks Invitational while the 2014-15 team finished second in the Cal Poly Match Play Challenge and tied for third in the Nick Watney Invitational Justin De Los Santos claimed the Big West Conference individual title at the San Luis Obispo Country Club.

Cal Poly's 2015-16 team finished second in the Big West Championship, led by individual runner-up Cole Nygren. Nygren and De Los Santos both earned first-team All-Big West honors. The 2016-17 squad won the Hartford Hawk Invitational en route to a third-place Big West finish. Nygren earned first-team Big West honors while De Los Santos landed on the second team During the 2017-18 season, the Mustangs opened with a third-place finish in the NKU Fall Classic, earned a pair of fourths and placed sixth in the Big West Conference Championship.

Cartwright has coached a pair of Big West Conference individual champions -- Travis Bertoni in 2005 and De Los Santos in 2015.

Other positions held by Cartwright include head coach of the golf team at San Luis Obispo High School from 1997-2000 and head pro at the Mountain View Country Club in Corona from 1981-90.

He was named Northern Chapter Golf Professional of the Year in 1993 and 1997 and, in December 2017, was presented the Labron Harris Sr. Award during the Golf Coaches Association of America convention held at Planet Hollywood. The Harris Award is presented to the college or high school coach and PGA Professional whose support of the game through teaching, coaching and involvement in the community has helped ensure the continued growth of the game of golf and who represents the finest qualities the game has to offer.

Cartwright played golf at Cal State Fullerton and graduated in 1981 with a major in physical education and a minor in business.

He has played in numerous tournaments, winning the 1998 Straight Down Fall Classic in San Luis Obispo and teaming with former Cal Poly golfer Rebecca Norris to win the Southern California PGA Pro-Lady Championship in 2006 at the Santa Ana Country Club. He also won the event in 1991.

Cartwright was a PGA Tour qualifier for the 1991 San Diego Open and has worked in professional golf for over 25 years.

He has guided the Cal Poly men's team to the NCAA West Regional twice and individuals in three other regionals.

Scott and his wife Cheryl have two children.
