Bob Lowe is in his second season asthe Cal Poly men’s basketball team’s director ofoperations while enjoying a second successful tenure with theMustang program.
Lowe, a Cal Poly assistant coach from 2002-09, returned to theMustang program in 2013 after spending a four-year block (2009-13)as an assistant with Cal State Northridge. In his current capacitywith Mustangs, Lowe is charged with scout work and opponent gamepreparation, in addition to scheduling team travel, coordinatingvideo exchange, organizing summer camps, facility scheduling andoverseeing Cal Poly’s student managerial staff.
“Bob is a tremendous asset to our staff,” sixth-yearCal Poly head coach Joe Callero said. “His experienceregarding Big West opponents as well as his intelligence andcoaching maturity compliments our staff perfectly. With Bob, wehave someone who has an excellent understanding of Cal Poly and thecentral coast community.”
During his time at Cal State Northridge, Lowe assisted theMatadors to a third-place finish in the Big West standings duringthe 2010-11 season and a semifinal appearance at the conferencetournament.
As an assistant at Cal Poly, Lowe helped the Mustangs to threetop-four finishes in the Big West standings and appearances in the2003 and 2007 conference tournament championship games. The 2006-07Mustang squad set Division I program records for total victories(19) and highest finish in the Big West standings (second).
Prior to his time at Cal Poly, Lowe enjoyed stints at Portland(2000-01), Southern Utah (1992-00) and New Mexico State (1989-92),where he helped the Aggies to three successive NCAA Tournamentappearances and a Sweet 16 showing in 1992. New Mexico State posteda combined 74-18 record with Lowe on the bench. Southern Utah alsoproduced American West Conference titles in 1995 and 1996 withLowe.
A 1985 graduate of George Fox University, Lowe served as anundergraduate assistant (1983-85) with the Bruins before joiningtwo-year program College of the Desert (Palm Desert, Calif.) from1985-89.
Lowe earned a master’s degree in education administrationfrom Cal State San Bernardino in 1994.
Lowe and his wife Kelli have one son, Casey.
