No. 6 Cal Poly Beach Volleyball Sweeps Day One of Big West Challenge

FOLSOM, Calif. — The Cal Poly Beach swept both of its matches Friday at the first day of the Big West Beach Volleyball Challenge in Folsom, Calif. just outside of Sacramento. The No. 6 Mustangs beat both CSUN and Sacramento State 5-0 to win its 14th match in a row.

The Mustangs dropped just one set the entire day as they improved their record to 17-2 overall and 3-0 in the Big West.

The No. 1 duo of sophomore Torrey Van Winden and freshman Tiadora Miric won their match against CSUN 21-15, 22-20 and Sacramento State 21-11, 21-10. They improved their pairs record to 12-4 and extended their win streak to seven matches.

The No. 2 pair of sophomore Emily Sonny and junior Samantha Manley beat the Matadors (9-2) 21-17, 21-17 and the Hornets (1-9) 21-14, 21-13. They are now a perfect 19-0 on the season, the best pairs record in program history.

Senior Taylor Nelson and junior Adlee Van Winden made quick work of both of their opponents at the No. 3 position Friday. They beat CSUN 21-6, 21-5 and Sacramento State 21-13, 21-12 to keep their perfect record intact at 13-0.

Cal Poly's No. 4 duo of senior Raeann Greisen and freshman Macy Gordon easily took down both of their opponents. They beat the Matadors 21-6, 21-5 and the Hornets 21-12, 21-9.

The No. 5 pairing of senior Hannah Hubbard and sophomore Heather Pembroke continued their solid play. They beat CSUN 21-12, 21-19 and Sacramento State 18-21, 21-11, 15-9.

The No. 6 Mustangs continue Big West Challenge play Saturday with two more matches. They take on No. 3 Hawai'i at 9 a.m. and CSU Bakersfield at 3 p.m.
