High School -- A 2018 graduate of Mesquite High School in Gilbert, Ariz., Cano helped the Wildcats to back-to-back Final Four appearances in the Arizona state 5A playoffs in 2017 and 2018 ... Wildcats were 28-6 during Cano's senior season, including an 8-0 mark for the San Tan section title under head coach Jeff Holland ... Cano hit .468 in senior season (51 of 109) with 14 doubles, three triples, four home runs and 35 RBI ... struck out just eight times in 128 plate appearances and stole eight of nine bases ... earned Arizona Baseball Coaches Association all-state 5A honors and was nominated for Arizona High School Baseball Player of the Year ... as a junior, Cano hit .333 with 10 doubles and 12 RBI ... stole nine bases ... earned All-5A?Region honors and led the Wildcats to a 22-11 overall mark and a 2-2 record in the Arizona Interscholastic Association 5A Conference playoffs ... also played basketball and earned All-Region accolades ... averaged 10.2 points per game as a senior, 7.7 points as a junior and 7.7 as a sophomore for an 8.2 career scoring average over 79 games ... a Golden Scholar as a sophomore, junior and senior ... also recruited by Grand Canyon and Arizona, Cano chose to come to Cal Poly because "I was very impressed by the area around the school and the field, good coaching staff and good academics" ... played summer ball for Utah Marshalls, an under-18 team based in Kearns, Utah, which won 62 of 80 games.
