2018 -- Started five games in middle of fourth season before he was shut down for rest of year ... granted medical redshirt ... 0-1 record and 3.00 ERA ... struck out 17 batters over 21 innings ... loss was against Cal State Fullerton ... pitched five scoreless innings in a no-decision at CSUN with seven strikeouts ... left-handers hit .324 against Zill ... did not play summer ball.
2017 -- Started three weekend games before he was sidelined with elbow injury requiring Tommy John surgery in March 2017 ... granted medical redshirt ... posted 0-3 record and 10.93 ERA in starts against Cal, Pacific and San Diego State ... struck out 14 over 14 innings ... did not play summer ball.
2016 -- Opened his sophomore campaign in the bullpen but worked his way into the starting rotation as the Sunday starter after three midweek starts in late March ... finished with a 4-3 record and 2.79 ERA, striking out 47 batters in 58 innings ... named winner of team's Mike Krukow Outstanding Pitcher award ... earned wins in starts against Cal State Fullerton, Hawai'i and UC Santa Barbara on successive weekends in April along with a victory in relief against Pacific ... lowered his ERA from 4.66 to as low as 2.65 in his seven Sunday starts ... seaosn-high eight strikeouts against Pepperdine on March 1 and CSUN on May 8 ... longest stint was eight-plus innings against CSUN on May 8, matching career high with eight strikeouts and allowing no runs and three hits until CSUN rallied for two runs in the bottom of the ninth ... pitched 7 1/3 innings for win against Cal State Fullerton on April 10, allowing two runs and three hits with three walks and four strikeouts ... did not play summer ball.
2015 -- Made seven starts and five relief appearances on the mound as a true freshman ... started six midweek games, then drew start in penultimate series of season against UC Riverside and allowed one run and four hits with five strikeouts over seven innings for victory ... finished with 4-1 record and 3.18 ERA, striking out 23 batters over 39 2/3 innings ... other wins were against Pepperdine (one run, two hits in 5 1/3 innings), Santa Clara (four runs and seven hits in five innings) and San Jose State (one run, four hits in six innings) ... season-high six strikeouts in Pepperdine victory ... 2.38 ERA in day games and 3-0 record with 2.42 ERA in home contests ... pitched for Walla Walla Sweets in West Coast Collegiate League over the summer months, posting 1-3 record and 3.33 ERA with 29 strikeouts in 27 innings over eight appearances (five starts).
High School – As a pitcher and third baseman under head coach Robert Zamora at Capistrano Valley High School, Zill missed the first month of his senior season before finishing 1-2 with a 2.00 ERA, making six starts on the mound … helped Cougars to 18-14-1 record, first-place finish in the South Coast League and a spot in the second round of the CIF-Southern Section Division I playoffs … was 4-1 with 1.41 ERA in junior campaign (2013), making three starts along with five relief appearances and striking out 23 batters in 34 2/3 innings … Capistrano Valley posted a 21-11-1 record in 2013, finishing in a tie for second place in the South Coast League with a 7-5 mark and qualifying for the CIF-Southern Section Division I playoffs … in two-year prep career struck out 36 batters in 55 2/3 innings … played summer ball for North County Indians, making three appearances on the mound and posting no record with a 5.62 ERA … also recruited by San Francisco, Zill chose Cal Poly because of “its location and baseball program.”
