After earning eight starts as a true freshman, was used exclusively out of the bullpen as a sophomore and is expected to perform the same role in 2013.
2012: Compiled 3-4 record and 3.34 ERA over team-leading 25 appearances on the mound, all in relief … earned eight saves as the closer, striking out 31 batters in 35 innings … combined on pair of shutouts against, both against Oklahoma State in first weekend of season … longest stint of season on mound was 4.2 innings for win at UC Davis on May 5, allowing one run and three hits … one week later pitched four scoreless innings with season-high five strikeouts for save against CSU Bakersfield, retiring final 11 batters of the game … also earned wins against Pacific on April 29 (1.2 scoreless innings) and San Diego State on March 23 (1.1 innings) … earned saves against Loyola Marymount, Washington, Minnesota, Dartmouth, Long Beach State, UC Irvine, CSU Bakersfield and UC Santa Barbara … played summer ball for Orleans Firebirds in Cape Cod League, compiling 2-1 record and 3.98 ERA … in 20 relief appearances, struck out 23 batters and walked eight in 20.1 innings.
2011: Opened true freshman season as weekend starter, but moved to bullpen in final month … finished with 2-5 record and 3.67 ERA … eight starts and 10 relief appearances … ERA dropped to 1.93 after allowing one run in 5.1 innings against Pepperdine in fourth appearance (second start) of season … struck out 34 batters in 49 innings, including season-high five against UC Riverside … picked up first win against Cal State Northridge on April 17, allowing two unearned runs and four hits in 5.2 innings … other win was against UC Davis on May 15 with 2.1 scoreless innings in relief … left-handers hit .373 while righties hit .220 ... 65 ground ball outs verses 38 fly ball outs ... led team by inducing six ground ball double plays ... 2-2 with 2.96 ERA at home and 0-3 with 4.38 ERA on the road ... played summer ball for West Coast Collegiate Baseball League champion Corvallis Knights … compiled 3-1 record and 2.03 ERA in regular season, striking out 25 batters in 31 innings … tossed seven shutout innings, allowing four hits, for win as Corvallis blanked Bend 3-0 in final game of WCCBL's West Division series … named WCCBL Pitcher of the week for that performance, striking out six and walking one … named No. 10 Major League prospect out of WCCBL by Baseball America.
