Hoping to contribute more innings out of the bullpen as a relief pitcher as a sophomore this spring.
2015: Making his return to the mound following Tommy John surgery, Cotton pitched in three games, tossing two scoreless innings ... pitched one scoreless frame each against USC (his first collegiate appearance, retiring the side in order with 10 pitches on March 22) and UC Santa Barbara ... played summer ball for Eau Claire Express in Northwoods League ... made five relief appearances, pitching 12 2/3 scoreless innings, including a five-inning stint against Waterloo, allowing just two hits.
2014: Redshirt … missed entire season due to Tommy John surgery … did not play summer ball as he continued his rehabilitation.
High School: Cotton compiled a 7-2 record and 0.80 ERA as a senior under head coach Paul Benzer at The Athenian School in Danville ... struck out 118 batters in 70 innings, allowing just 26 walks ... made 11 starts and pitched three complete games ...also earned a pair of saves ... struck out 10 or more batters seven times, including 14 in a 3-2 win over College Prep ... opposing batters hit just .151 ... also hit .434 with six doubles, three home runs and 13 RBI, stealing five of six bases and striking out just once in 66 plate appearances ... played shortstop and third base when not on the mound ... Owls were 12-8 in 2013, finishing third in Bay Counties East League and losing in the semifinals of the CIF-North Coast Section Division 5 playoffs ... named league MVP and landed on Contra Costa Times All-East Bay Team and all-state second team as a utility player ... played summer ball for North County Indians and posted 5-1 record and 1.95 ERA with 29 strikeouts in 37 innings ... as a junior, hit .369 and was 5-3 with a 1.12 ERA on the mound ... Owls were 14-7 in 2012, finishing third in the Bay Counties East League and reaching the quarterfinals of the CIF-North Coast Section Division 5 playoffs ... produced nine doubles among his 24 hits and also homered three times, driving in 20 RBI with six stolen bases ... on the mound, struck out 59 batters and walked 16 in 50 innings, earning a pair of saves ... a three-time All-Bay Counties East League first-team selection and a four-year varsity starter ... in prep career compiled 19-7 record and 1.32 ERA with 254 strikeouts in 180 innings ... attended Area Code tryouts, was a member of the San Francisco Giants Scout Team and played in the NorCal Scout League All-Star Game ... was recruited by Santa Clara, Duke, UC Davis, Navy, Dartmouth and Holy Cross, choosing Cal Poly because “I feel at home in San Luis Obispo and I connected with the coaching staff more than any other. I feel like a perfect fit athletically and academically for Cal Poly.”
