SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- After scoring a career-high 32 points during the Cal Poly men’s basketball program’s 101-100 victory against Cal State Fullerton on Thursday and adding 10 points at UC Davis on Saturday, sophomore guard Junior Ballard has been named Mechanics Bank Cal Poly Student-Athlete of the Week.
In recording the highest-scoring game by a Mustang since guard Victor Joseph finished with 33 versus Cal State Fullerton on Jan. 6, 2018, Ballard was 9-for-12 from the floor during his performance against the Titans while sinking 11 of 14 free throw attempts. He also hit a trio of three-pointers in 37 minutes.
Two nights later, Ballard’s 10-point effort at UC Davis marked his team-leading 14th double-digit scoring game of the season.
For the year, Ballard leads Cal Poly and ranks 10th among Big West Conference players at 12.4 points per game.
As a program, Cal Poly plays five of its next seven games at home inside Mott Athletics Center, beginning on Wednesday, Feb. 5, versus Long Beach State at 7 p.m.
