SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly's five players on 40-man Major League Baseball rosters have completed their 2026 seasons, led by Brooks Lee's .253 batting average and Bryan Woo's 12 victories, but no Mustangs will compete in the postseason this fall.
Lee finished his third season with the Minnesota Twins with 39 multiple-hit games, including seven three-hit contests and a four-hit game against Arizona on June 20.
Lee was second on the Twins with 83 RBIs and hits with 148, third in home runs with 24 and doubles with 25 and fourth in runs scored with 72. He played 48 games at shortstop and 110 at third base, missing just four contests.
Lee's average at the plate fluctuated between .238 and .254 ever since the middle of June and he hit safely in 10 of his last 11 contests, going 15-for-44 (.341) at the plate.
Woo posted a 12-10 win-loss record in his fourth season with the Seattle Mariners. The right-hander compiled a 4.01 ERA with 175 strikeouts over 173 innings, making 30 starts on the mound for the second straight year.
Woo was particularly sharp in home games, going 8-2 with a 2.64 ERA inside T-Mobile Park compared to a 4-8 mark with a 5.22 ERA on the road. His road numbers improved over the last six weeks. In his last five starts away from Seattle, he was 3-0 with a 1.91 ERA, allowing just six runs over 28 1/3 innings.
Andrew Alvarez made 17 starts and eight relief appearances on the mound in his second season with the Washington Nationals. The lefty also was 2-1 with a 5.29 ERA in seven starts at Triple-A Rochester early in the year.
With the Nationals, Alvarez earned one save and a pair of holds out of the bullpen, recording 114 strikeouts over 112 2/3 innings. In back-to-back starts against the Angels on Sept. 12 and the Cardinals on Sept. 19, Alvarez did not allow a run in 13 innings, giving up just six hits in the two contests combined and striking out eight in each game. He did not get the win in either outing.
Justin Bruihl closed out his 2026 season with a 1-1 record and 3.59 ERA for the St. Louis Cardinals. He made 73 appearances on the mound, all in relief, with 53 strikeouts over 77 2/3 innings. Bruihl also notched 11 holds with no saves.
Drew Thorpe made 10 rehab starts in the minors for the Chicago White Sox and was 2-0 with a 2.85 ERA for four different teams. Thorpe struck out 38 batters over 41 innings.
After his 60-day rehab period, Thorpe was elevated to the 40-man White Sox roster and optioned back to Charlotte. He has not pitched in the Major Leagues since August 2024, undergoing three procedures for bone spurs in his right elbow, Tommy John surgery, and appendicitis.
Thorpe made nine starts for the White Sox in 2024, his first Major League season.
Cal Poly's last former player in the Major League playoffs was outfielder Mitch Haniger for Seattle in 2022. He was 5-for-21 with two doubles in five postseason games with the Mariners.
