Football Heads to Stephen F. Austin After Dominant Home Opener Win
- The Mustangs put on a dominant performance in their home opener this past Saturday against Western Oregon. In front of a sellout crowd at Spanos Stadium, Cal Poly defeated the Wolves, 56-7. Senior wide receiver Michael Briscoe put on one of the best offensive performances in program history. He caught four touchdowns, all in the first half, the second most receiving touchdowns in a game in program history.
- Cal Poly's offense produced 516 yards of total offense while the defense held Western Oregon to 68 yards rushing while also collecting two interceptions, including a pick-six by cornerback Kresean Kizzy.
- The Mustangs now turn the page to their final non-conference game of the season this week on the road in Nacogdoches, TX against Stephen F. Austin. Saturday's game against Lumberjacks will kickoff at 5 p.m. PT and will air on ESPN+.
Volleyball Looks to Stay Hot While Hosting SLO Classic in Mott
- The Mustangs volleyball program enjoyed an absolutely flawless weekend at Mott Athletics Center. During the Mustang Invitational, Cal Poly dispatched Northern Colorado, California, and San Jose State all in straight-set sweeps, giving the Mustangs a perfect 9-0 set record through the tournament. The win against Cal was the program’s second sweep over a Power-4 opponent this season.
- Emma Fredrick starred in an unbeaten tournament run as Cal Poly's best pin hitter, pacing all Mustangs with 38 kills and 4.22 per set while also leading defensively with 27 digs. Her three service aces were second on the team. Fredrick is positioned 6th in the conference for points.
- Emme Bullis delivered a spectacular 109 assists and averaged 12.11 per set through three sweeps. The veteran leader was the driving force behind Cal Poly's .366 hitting efficiency, providing 30 or more assists in each of their wins. She capped her dominant week by notching double-doubles against both Cal (32 assists, 10 digs) and San Jose State (44 assists, 11 digs), bringing her season total to five.
- Both Fredrick and Bullis' performances garnered them weekly Big West honors. Fredrick was named Big West Offensive Player of the Week while Bullis earned Big West Setter of the Week.
- The Mustangs return to Mott Athletics Center this week to host the SLO Classic, welcoming WCC foe Saint Mary’s, the ranked Utah Utes, and future Big West opponent Cal Baptist from Sept. 18-20. The venue will also be host to a trio of neutral-site contests for a total of matches over the three day tournament. A ticket package with access to all matches can be purchased HERE.
Men's Soccer Looks to Finish Home Stand Strong
- Undefeated in three of its last four matches, Cal Poly completes a three-game home stand when welcoming Utah Tech to Mustang Memorial Field Thursday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m.
- With home draws against No. 20 San Francisco (Sept. 11) and Saint Mary’s (Sept. 14), Cal Poly extended its unbeaten home run to 11 successive matches (dating to 2023).
- Following Thursday’s home match with Utah Tech, Cal Poly closes the week at San Diego State on Sunday, Sept. 21.
Unbeaten Women's Soccer Aims to Keep Winning Streak Alive Against Rival
- The Mustangs open Big West play this week fresh off making history Sunday night at Spanos Stadium. Cal Poly scored two goals in the final 14 minutes of play to rally from 3-1 down and secure a 3-3 draw against Seattle to finish unbeaten in nonconference play for the first time in program history.
- With 10 seconds remaining in the match, senior Julia Moore buried the latest equalizing goal in program history to help Cal Poly remain unbeaten on the year (2-0-7). The current nine-match unbeaten streak is tied for the longest unbeaten streak to open a season in program history and it’s the team’s longest overall since starting the 2005 season 6-0-3.
- With the result, Cal Poly now has seven draws this season — a new single-season program record and the most by any team in the country this season.
- Cal Poly is one of 18 teams in the nation yet to suffer a loss this season.
- On a night when the Mustangs honored their nine-member senior class, seniors were responsible for all three goals the team scored as Moore, Jessie Halladay and Brennan Cole all found the back of the net.
- In just her seventh match this season, Halladay scored her Big West leading fifth goal of the season in the 76th minute to spark the Mustangs, who led 1-0 at halftime. The Los Gatos, Calif. native also leads the conference in points (12), shots per match (32) and points per match (1.71).
- Graduate student Madelyn Dougherty played a part in all three goals Sunday night, assisting on Cole and Moore’s goals, and deflecting a pass by a Seattle defender that eventually led to Halladay’s goal. She has five assists this season, which leads the Big West.
- Thursday’s Blue-Green rivalry showdown will pit the undefeated Mustangs against the red-hot Gauchos (7-1-1), who have won six consecutive matches. The match starts at 7 p.m. Thursday at Harder Stadium and will be televised live on ESPN+. Last year, Cal Poly saw a seven-match unbeaten streak and a three-match winning streak against the Gauchos come to an end as UCSB earned a narrow 1-0 win over the Mustangs in San Luis Obispo. The Gauchos went on to capture the Big West Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 15 years
Cross Country Teams Begin 2025 Season This Week
- Cal Poly’s men’s and women’s cross country teams — three-time defending Big West champions — get their 2025 seasons underway Friday at UC Santa Barbara’s Gaucho Twilight.
- Action from Mission Club Golf Course in Lompoc gets underway at 5:40 p.m. Friday with the men’s 8K, with the women’s 6K to follow at 6:20 p.m. Live results for the meet are available HERE.
- This fall, the Mustangs are seeking a feat no other school in Big West history has achieved — a fourth straight sweep of the Big West men’s and women’s team championships.
- The men return four runners from last year’s Big West Championship team, including All-Big West honorees Rory Catsimanes and Michael Chambers. The Cal Poly women also bring back four members of their 2024 championship squad — redshirt senior Isabel Sanchez, juniors Kelli Gaffney and Sydney Sundgren, and sophomore Renae Searls.
Women's Golf's Koong Starts 2025-26 Season Strong
- Mustangs women’s golf enjoyed a strong first round of the Dick McGuire Invitational last weekend before a tougher afternoon and comeback second day to rescue one spot in the standings, finishing 11th of 15 teams in New Mexico.
- Nicole Koong paces all Mustang golfers after the first tournament with 220 total strokes and 73.3 round average. Koong’s performance ties for her second-lowest career stroke total for a three-round event.
- Cal Poly, mirroring their fall schedule from 2024, will head up the pacific coast to Chambers Bay Golf Course at the Leadership & Golf Invitational, hosted by the University of Washington. Last season, the event was one of Cal Poly’s best team scores (282) in program history.
