SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Brooks Lee of the Minnesota Twins drove in two runs with a walk-off single Monday night and hit multiple home runs in a Major League game for the first time in his career Tuesday night while Seattle Mariners right-hander Bryan Woo sought his ninth victory of the season on Wednesday.
Another right-hander, Taylor Dollard, continues his remarkable comeback from Tommy John surgery, which resulted in a 25-month layoff, while southpaw Andrew Alvarez finally earned his first win after an 0-7 start. Outfielder Nick Torres continues his torrid hitting in the Mexican League.
Those are the highlights of former Cal Poly baseball players now in the professional ranks over the month of July.

Lee produced his third walk-off hit of the year Monday night with his one-out single following a 90-minute rain delay, lifting the Twins to a 5-4 victory over the Boston Red Sox. That hit followed Lee’s walk-off single against Kansas City on May 24 and his squeeze bunt for the winning run versus Tampa Bay on July 5.
Tuesday night, Lee replaced Carlos Correa (migraine) at shortstop in the third inning and responded with his first multiple home runs in a single game — two-run blasts in both the seventh and ninth innings. He also singled to knock in another run in the fifth, driving in all five Minnesota runs in an 8-5 loss to the Red Sox.
Lee, who hit two home runs in a Triple-A game for St. Paul on June 20, 2024, against Toledo, became the sixth Twins player to hit home runs from both sides of the plate in franchise history.
He started his second season in the Majors 2-for-19 (.105), put together a 19-game hitting streak (25-for-79, .316) before Milwaukee snapped the run June 21, followed with six hits in his next two games and currently sports a .252 average with 10 doubles, 10 home runs and 43 RBIs in 89 games.
Lee hit .348 in June with five doubles, four home runs and 16 RBIs. He also had a five-RBI game against Cincinnati in September 2024.

Woo, who pitched in his first All-Star Game on July 15 in Atlanta, fell to 8-6 with a 3.11 ERA on Wednesday at Sutter Health Park (formerly Raley Field) in West Sacramento, just 82 miles from his hometown of Alameda. He allowed five runs and eight hits with six strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings. The Athletics won 5-4.
Woo has struck out 127 batters while walking just 25 over 133 innings (21 starts). He entered Wednesday’s game as one of two pitchers in the Majors with a sub-3.00 ERA, 100-plus strikeouts and 25 or fewer walks this season. The other is reigning American League Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal of the Detroit Tigers, who played college ball at Seattle University.
Woo retired the side in order in the third inning of the All-Star Game, striking out Ronald Acuna Jr. and inducing Ketel Marte to ground out to second base and Pete Alonso to line out to first base. He is seventh in the Majors in WHIP (0.97), 14th in opponents’ batting average (.212), 21st in ERA (3.11) and eighth in innings pitched (133).

Dollard recorded his longest outing on the mound this season last Friday night, going six innings and allowing one run and four hits with no walks and four strikeouts for the win in a 7-1 decision against Spokane.
He is 2-1 with a 1.98 ERA in six starts and one relief appearance at Everett, notching 20 strikeouts over 27 1/3 innings.
Dollard posted a 16-2 record and 2.25 ERA with the Arkansas Travelers in the Texas League in 2022, striking out 131 batters over 144 innings. In 2023, however, he pitched in just three games for the Triple-A Tacoma Raniers before he was diagnosed with an elbow injury that required surgery.
Off to an 0-7 start this season, Alvarez entered the win column Tuesday night with six scoreless innings for Triple-A Rochester in a lopsided 16-1 win over Charlotte. Alvarez allowed just two hits and no walks, matching his season high for strikeouts with seven.
Alvarez had left several games earlier this season with a lead only to end up with a no-decision due to late comebacks by the opposition. He sports a 4.38 ERA with 82 strikeouts in 98 2/3 innings (20 starts).
The return.
