Vachini notched his second four-hit game of the season -- a double and three singles -- while Castellon added a single and triple as each knocked in three runs -- Castellon for the fourth time in his last eight games -- for the Mustangs, who improved to 31-15 overall and 20-4 for second place in the Big West with its fifth sweep of a Big West series this year.
Cal State Bakersfield fell to 17-32 and 8-16.
Sophomore southpaw Josh Morano (2-0), in relief of starter Ethan Marmie, pitched 2 2/3 innings of one-run baseball for the win. Junior right-hander Tanner Sagouspe added three frames, allowing just one run, and freshman lefty Luke Kalfsbeek pitched a perfect ninth to close the victory.
In addition to Vachini and Castellon, Ryan Fenn, Alejandro Garza, and Cam Hoiland had multiple-hit games as Cal Poly outhit the Roadrunners 18-8. Dylan Kordic drove in two runs with a sacrifice fly and a double.
Cal Poly scored twice in the first inning on a two-run triple by Castellon, but Cal State Bakersfield answered with a run in the first and three more in the third to grab a 4-2 advantage.
The Mustangs regained the lead with four runs in the fourth on RBI singles from Vachini and Fenn plus sacrifice flies off the bats of Kordic and Garza for a 6-4 cushion, and added another run in the fifth on back-to-back doubles by Hoiland and Kordic.
Cal Poly broke the game wide open at 12-4 with a five-spot in the sixth highlighted by a run-scoring double from Hoiland, a two-run single from Vachini, an RBI single from Castellon, and a wild pitch.
Cal State Bakersfield scored single runs in the sixth and eighth frames to complete the scoring.
The Mustangs have put crooked numbers (two or more runs in an inning) on the scoreboard 77 times in 46 games this season.
Jeter Schuerman (1-1), the second of eight pitchers used by Cal State Bakersfield, was charged with the loss after giving up the go-ahead run in the fourth inning.
Brock Pereira was the load Roadrunner with multiple hits Sunday, singling twice and driving in a pair of runs.
For the series, Castellon was nine-for-14 with a triple, five RBIs, and three runs scored while Garza finished eight-for-15 with three doubles, four runs scored, and four RBIs. Fenn had six hits and Hoiland and Casey Murray Jr. each produced five hits.
Cal Poly hosts Pepperdine on Tuesday at 5 p.m. before hitting the road again next weekend with a three-game Big West series at Cal State Northridge.
