Cal Poly Athletics Unveils Next Chapter

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly Athletics has announced the establishment of the Players Trust, a groundbreaking initiative that will help attract and retain student-athletes through the support of alumni, parents and friends, putting Cal Poly on the forefront of the new landscape of college athletics.
The House v. NCAA settlement has allowed universities more freedom to increase the number of scholarships provided and offer supplemental scholarship opportunities alongside existing NIL policies. This has opened the door for Cal Poly Athletics to create a balance of financial opportunity for student-athletes who thrive both athletically and academically, leading to the creation of the Players Trust.
The addition of the Players Trust offers Cal Poly fans and alumni a meaningful opportunity to help ensure that the student-athletes they enjoy watching continues their journey as a Mustang.The NCAA landscape is rapidly changing and having the Players Trust allows us to maintain a competitive edge in attracting and retaining high level student-athletes.Don Oberhelman, Director of Athletics
The Players Trust will allow alumni and boosters to personally invest in ensuring the future success of their favorite teams by helping fund scholarships, Alston awards, and incentive-based scholarship supplements specific to each athletic program and where supporters want to invest.
The Players Trust is an essential part of attracting and retaining the type of student-athletes all of us want to be representing Cal Poly. The core objective in this endeavor is to create a sustainable model that empowers student-athletes while keeping the same standards for academic and athletic excellence. For our supporters, this program offers the chance to be at the ground floor of a movement that redefines collegiate athletics and ensures Cal Poly is a leader at the top of the Big West and Big Sky conferences.
