THIS WEEK IN MUSTANG ATHLETICS
- After capturing the Big West Championship on Saturday, Cal Poly volleyball travels to Los Angeles to take on No. 5 seed BYU in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament at 5 p.m. on Thursday with live coverage available on ESPN+.
- Led by a pair of the conference's top five leading scorers, Cal Poly women's basketball hosts Cal State Fullerton at 6 p.m. on Thursday before heading to UC Riverside on Saturday to open Big West play.
- Cal Poly men’s basketball begins its 30th year of Big West action with the two-game Bold Week, visiting Cal State Fullerton on Thursday, Dec. 4 before hosting UC Riverside on Saturday, Dec. 6.
- Cal Poly wrestling will encounter some of the best teams in the nation this week when they compete in the prestigious Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
- Chris Caudillo opens the indoor season for the Cal Poly track and field team this Saturday when he takes part in the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener in Boston.

The Big West Champions Travel to Los Angeles on Thursday to Open NCAA Volleyball Tournament
- Slated to compete in its 18th NCAA Tournament all-time, Cal Poly volleyball descends upon USC’s Galen Center on Thursday at 5 p.m. to take on No. 5 seed BYU in the First Round.
- Making their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2019, the Mustangs secured an automatic bid to NCAAs by capturing the Big West Championship on Saturday with a four-set victory over UC Davis.
- The match will be streamed live on ESPN+and the winner will face the victor of No. 4 seed USC and Princeton in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament at 7 p.m. Friday inside the Galen Center.
- Cal Poly is 15-17 all-time in its 17 previous NCAA Tournament appearances with its last victory coming in 2019 when they defeated Georgia in five sets before falling to Stanford.
Women’s Basketball Welcomes Titans to Mott on Thursday for Conference Opener
- Cal Poly women's basketball will play its first two games of Big West play this week as part of Bold Week. The Mustangs will host Cal State Fullerton Thursday inside Mott Athletics Center at 6 p.m. They will then hit the road to face UC Riverside Saturday at 4 p.m.
- The Mustangs are coming off a 59-31 win over Chapman University last Monday.
- Two Mustangs rank in the top five in the Big West in scoring. Sophomore guard Vanessa McManus leads the conference at 23.3 points per game. Freshman forward Charish Thompson ranks fifth at 15.3 points per game. McManus is also sixth in the Big West in rebounding at seven per game. They are both top five in the Big West in field goal percentage and Thompson leads the conference in free throw percentage at 92.5 percent.
Men’s Basketball Heads to Fullerton, Hosts UCR to Open Big West Play
- Big West Championship semifinalists a year ago, Cal Poly visits Cal State Fullerton Thursday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. in its conference opener before hosting UC Riverside Saturday, Dec. 6 at 4 p.m. Following the two-game Bold Week, Big West play resumes Thursday, Jan. 1.
- A double-digit scorer in all eight appearances this year, sophomore guard Hamad Mousa remains second among Big West players with 18.4 points per game.
- After sinking 12 three-pointers in Saturday’s win against Redlands, Cal Poly ranks 38th among 361 Division I programs with 10.6 three-pointers per game.
Wrestling Travels to Vegas for Cliff Keen Invitational
- Wrestling will battle some of the nation’s best when they head to Las Vegas this Friday and Saturday to compete in the 43rd annual Cliff Keen Invitational.
- The two-day tournament takes place inside the Westgate Hotel Paradise Event Center and the Mustangs will encounter 31 other teams in Vegas, including 11 Top 25 nationally-ranked programs.
- Last year at the tournament, Zeth Romney became the first Mustang in 15 years to capture a title at 133 pounds at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. He defeated four nationally ranked opponents en route to claiming the title and used the performance as a springboard for an All-American run at the NCAA Championships.
- The Mustangs carry four-nationally ranked wrestlers into the tournament — No. 5 Zeth Romney at 141 pounds, No. 17 Trevor Tinker at 285 pounds, No. 21 Ceasar Garza at 184 pounds, No. 26 Koda Holeman at 125 pounds and No. 32 Jagger French at 157 pounds.
- Garza was crowned the Pac-12 Wrestler of the Week on Nov. 25 after claiming the 184-pound title at the Roadrunner Open on Nov. 23, defeating defending Pac-12 champion TJ McDonnell from Oregon State in the championship match.
- Following the Cliff Keen, Cal Poly returns home to host a tri-dual with Drexel and Cal Baptist on Saturday, Dec. 20, at Mott Athletics Center. The Mustangs will face the Dragons at 1 p.m. and the Lancers at 4 p.m.
Track & Field Opens Indoor Season Saturday in Boston
- The indoor season for the Cal Poly track and field team officially gets underway this Saturday when Chris Caudillo competes in the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener in Boston.
- Caudillo is slated to race in the men’s 5,000-meter at approximately 4:10 p.m. PST on Saturday. A livestream of the meet is available on FloTrackand you can follow the live results HERE.
- Caudillo is looking the break the indoor school record of 13:58.92 in the event.
- Two freshman men’s distance runners will also compete in the USATF U20 Cross Country Championships in Portland, Oregon, on Saturday — Tyler Daillak and J.R. Lesher.
