WEEKLY SNEAK PEEK
Mustang Football Hosts Eastern Washington for Final Game of 2025
- Cal Poly football will play its final game of the 2025 season Saturday at home against Eastern Washington. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. With the game airing on ESPN+.
- Before the game, Cal Poly will honor its 2025 senior class in a ceremony that will start around 1:30
- The first 2,000 fans to arrive at the game will receive a free thunder stick upon entry. Students will once again have a chance at winning a quarter's worth of free tuition with a raffle ticket they get upon enterting the stadium.
- The Mustangs will be seeking their fourth win of the season Saturday against the Eagles. That would eclipse their win total from each of the last five seasons.
- Cal Poly boasts the top two tacklers in the Big Sky on defene in linebackers Mikey D'Amato and Kenny Olson. D'Amato ranks second in the entire FCS with 131 tackles which currently ranks fourth most in a single season in program history. Olson has 107 which is tied for 13th in the country.
Women's Basketball Returns Home to Begin Three-Game Homestand
- Following finishing up a three-game road trip Monday, Cal Poly women's basketball returns to Mott Athletics Center Friday to begin a stretch of three straight games inside Mott Athletics Center.
- The Mustangs will host Southern Utah Friday, Nov. 21 at 6 p.m. They then host Chapman University Monday, Nov. 24 at 6 p.m. They finish the homestand with the Big West opener Dec. 4 against Cal State Fullerton. All three games will air on ESPN+.
- Through the first four games of the season, Cal Poly has been led by sophomore guard Vanessa McManus. She currently leads the Big West in scoring at 23 points per game. She has scored in double figures in each of the first four games, scoring over 20 three times and notching a career-high 29 points in a game at Stanford.
- Also impressive for the Mustangs so far is freshman forward Charish Thompson. She has made a big splash to begin her collegiate career, averaging 15.8 points which ranks second on the team and seventh in the Big West.
Volleyball Wraps Up Regular Season This Week Pursuing Big West Title Repeat
- Cal Poly fell just short last Thursday, losing 3-2 to UC Santa Barbara, but the team responded on Saturday with a historic straight-sets victory over Hawai’i. On Senior Night, the Mustangs secured their first series sweep over the Rainbow Wahine since 2017 and, for the first time in program history, achieved it with straight-set victories in both matches.
- The win also tied last season's victory total, matching the most under sixth-year head coach Caroline Walters. Most notably, Cal Poly completed a perfect season at home, finishing its 2025 slate at Mott Athletics Center with a 15-0 record. The team's 19 consecutive home wins, dating back to last season, gives them the nation's second-longest active home winning streak and the best 2025 home record in Division I volleyball.
- Despite the loss to UC Santa Barbara, a pair of Mustangs delivered season-best performances. Emme Bullis recorded a season-high 60 assists, the second-highest total of her career, while Emma Fredrick powered her way to a match-high and career-high 21 kills.
- With just two matches remaining in the Big West season, the Mustangs sit alone in second place with 13 wins. Cal Poly travels to play Cal State Fullerton on Friday (6 p.m.) and UC Irvine on Saturday (1 p.m.).
- They trail first-place UC Davis by one win and lead UC Santa Barbara and Long Beach State by one. Since the Gauchos and Beach have 1-1 records against Cal Poly, the secondary tiebreaker, winning percentage over UC Davis, would keep the Mustangs in second place in the event of a tie. For Cal Poly to have a chance at the Big West regular season title, UC Davis must lose at least one of its matches this weekend.
Gaffney Set to Represent Cal Poly on the National Stage
- Winners of two of its three season-opening matchups last week, Cal Poly resumes a six-game road trip at Colorado State (Wednesday, Nov. 12) and Montana (Friday, Nov. 14).
- Cal Poly opened its road trip with a 73-71 victory at Seattle (Nov. 8), a decision in which the Mustangs overturned a 10-point deficit with five-and-a-half minutes to play and capped the win with a buzzer-beating three-pointer from junior guard Jake Davis.
- The lone Mustang to score in double digits through the opening three games, sophomore guard Hamad Mousa leads Cal Poly and ranks seventh among Big West players with 17.7 points per game.
Road Trip Continues for Men’s Basketball Thursday at Utah
- Cal Poly opens the second half of its six-game road trip – the program’s lengthiest in four years – when visiting Utah on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. PT.
- With a season best 21-point performance at Montana (Nov. 14), sophomore guard Peter Bandelj moved into second in the lineup at 15.8 points per game.
- Sophomore guard Hamad Mousa remains Cal Poly’s top scorer and ranks fifth in the Big West with 17.8 points per game.
Wrestling Heads to Bakersfield on Sunday for the Roadrunner Open
- Fresh off a dominant dual victory over Pac-12 rival Cal State Bakersfield at home, Cal Poly travels to CSUB on Sunday to take part in the Roadrunner Open.
- Wrestling starts at 9 a.m. from the Icardo Center and live coverage is available on FloWrestling. Wrestlers from Air Force, Cal Baptist, Oregon State, Stanford, Utah Valley and the host Roadrunners are slated to compete in the one-day tournament.
- Over 20 Mustangs are expected to take part in the event.
- This past Friday inside Mott Athletics Center, the Mustangs won seven of 10 matches en route to a decisive 30-9 victory over Cal State Bakersfield in their conference opener.
- The Mustangs currently boast four nationally-ranked wrestlers — No. 5 Zeth Romney at 141 pounds, No. 17 Trevor Tinker at 285 pounds, No. 24 Ceasar Garza at 184 pounds and No. 28 Koda Holeman at 125 pounds.
- Following the Roadrunner Open, Cal Poly travels to Las Vegas on Dec. 5-6 to compete in the prestigious Cliff Keen Invitational. Last year, Zeth Romney won the 133-pound title at the tournament, setting the stage for his All-American season.
