
Seventy-One Mustangs Earn Big West Spring Academic Praise

COMPLETE BIG WEST SPRING ACADEMIC ALL-CONFERENCE SELECTIONS
SAN LUIS OBISPO – Featuring four programs boasting double-digit honorees, 71 Cal Poly student-athletes across nine programs – a 22 percent increase from last year – earned Big West Spring Academic All-Conference recognition Wednesday afternoon.
In order to qualify for selection, student-athletes (excluding true freshmen and first-year transfers) had to maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA through the most recent academic term while also competing in at least 50 percent of their program's competitions.

Cal Poly's men's and women's track and field programs – which swept both Big West Championship titles in May – accounted for 25 total honorees. Among the men's program's 14 selections were Big West 5,000- and 10,000-meter champion Will Fallini-Haas, who – between track and cross country – became a six-time Big West Academic honoree.
Highlighting the women's track and field program was Big West pole vault medalist Lexi Evans, who was one of seven Mustangs to earn Big West Academic praise and qualify for the NCAA West Preliminaries alongside Shelby Daniele (sprints), Rory Devaney (throws), Corban Payne (throws), Spencer Pickren (distance), Carson Smith (distance) and Lewis Westwood (distance).
The Cal Poly softball program set a new program record with 11 total selections – 73 percent of its eligible roster. With six regular starters earning distinction, 2024 NFCA All-Region and Big West Player of the Year honoree Jessica Clements became a three-time selection alongside senior right fielder Juju Sargent and junior infielder Caroline Allman.
Cal Poly's baseball program also established a new team record with 11 honorees – five of whom also earned All-Big West recognition in May for their on-field standout performances. That list includes Big West Defensive Player of the Year honoree Ryan Stafford, All-Big West first selection Jake Steels, second team pick Joe Yorke and honorable mention selections Ryan Fenn and Tanner Sagouspe.
Reaching the NCAA Championship semifinals for the first time in program history this past spring, Cal Poly's beach volleyball program recorded four Big West Academic honorees in AVCA All-America selections Ella Connor, Piper Ferch, Izzy Martinez and All-Big West pick Piper Naess.
The Mustang women's tennis program, which returned to the NCAA Tournament this past season after capturing its second Big West Championship tournament title in April, matched a program record with six selections. Graduate student Melissa LaMette and fifth-year competitor Delanie Dunkle each completed their careers as four-time honorees.
Cal Poly's men's tennis program, meanwhile, secured a further five selections in graduate player Fernando Fonseca, seniors Noah Berry, Joe Leather, Colter Smith and junior Bastiaan Weststrate.
Big West Championship runners-up in April, the Cal Poly women's golf program contributed four selections in seniors Jensen Jalufka, Nicole Neale, Carissa Wu and junior Kamille Dimayuga.
