Cal Poly Wraps Up Showing at Midlands Championships

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — The Cal Poly wrestling team wrapped up its showing at the 60th annual Ken Kraft Midlands Championships on Monday at NOW Arena.
The three Mustangs that advanced to the Round of 12 in their respective weight classes — Koda Holeman (125), Cash Stewart (165) and Cole Jackson (285) — fell in their matches, each falling one victory short of placing at the prestigious tournament.
Holeman and Stewart both made it to the quarterfinals in their weight classes Sunday, before dropping their next two bouts to finish with 2-2 records at the event. After nearly defeating 17th-ranked Max Gallagher from Penn in the quarterfinals Sunday, Holeman lost his Round of 12 match by technical fall and now sits at 11-7 overall on the season. Stewart dropped a hard-fought decision in his 165-pound Round of 12 bout and now owns a 7-6 record this year.
Jackson also lost his Round of 12 match by decision to finish with a 3-2 mark at the tournament, improving his season record to 10-9.
As a team, the seven wrestlers that competed helped the Mustangs place 23rd.
Cal Poly heads to Cedar Falls, Iowa, on Jan. 10-11 to wrestle in the NWCA National Dual Meet Championships held inside Northern Iowa’s UNI-Dome.
