Summer Leagues: Stafford, Team USA Sweep Chinese Taipei

Stafford's RBI, on a fielder's choice, came in the opening game of the series, which Team USA won 7-3 last Friday. Stafford also contributed a single in the game and scored.
The Americans also won 5-1, 10-0, 17-1 and, in the finale Tuesday, 7-6, with two runs in the final inning. First game of the series was played at the USA Baseball National Training Complex while games 2 and 4 were played in Durham. The two teams traveled to Kannapolis for game 3 and Fayetteville for the final contest.
For the series, Stafford walked three times and stole one base. He played three of the five games.
Team USA is managed by Cal Poly head coach Larry Lee, who also served as an assistant coach in 2017.

Following that series, Stafford will join Yarmouth-Dennis in the Cape Cod League.

• Charlie Royal is 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA for the Ridgefield Raptors in the West Coast League. He has started two games, pitching five innings in both. On June 25, Royle allowed one unearned run and one hit with no walks and three strikeouts in an 8-3 win over Bend. On July 1, he scattered four hits with no walks and six strikeouts in a 4-2 victory over Springfield.
• Incoming freshman infielder Alejandro Garza is hitting .364 (4-for-11) with one RBI for the Portland Pickles.
• Freshman-to-be pitcher Griffin Naess has pitched 10 innings over four games for the Kelowna Falcons with no record and a 2.70 ERA. On July 1, he scattered five hits over six innings with four strikeouts in a no-decision versus Kamloops.
• Hancock College transfer Luke Kovach has compiled a 0.81 ERA in seven games (11 innings) for the Corvallis Knights. He has allowed just three hits and one run with 16 strikeouts.
• Catcher Owen Firestone is hitting .500 for the Walnut Creek Crawdads in the California Collegiate League. Firestone is 7-for-14 at the plate with three RBIs in four games.
