Sanders Named Mechanics Bank Student-Athlete of the Week

SAN LUIS OBISPO – After scoring a career high 30 points during the Cal Poly men's basketball program's Dec. 21 home victory against Omaha and 17 on Dec. 18 versus Eastern Washington, senior guard Kobe Sanders was named Mechanics Bank Student-Athlete of the Week.
Having scored in double figures through all 12 of Cal Poly's games this season, Sanders finished 10-for-16 from the floor versus Omaha, 8-for-9 from the free throw line and blocked a career best three shots in the program's 66-53 home triumph. The 30-point effort eclipsed his previous career scoring best of 22 points against San Jose State (Nov. 29) and marked the highest scoring game by a Mustang this season.
Three days prior against Eastern Washington, Sanders was 5-for-6 from the floor and 6-for-7 from the free throw line.
The Big West's fourth leading scorer at 18.4 points per game, Sanders also ranks 44th among NCAA Division I players with an 89.2 (66-for-74) percent free throw mark.
As a program, Cal Poly opens its 28th season of Big West action by hosting CSUN on Thursday, Dec. 28 at 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
