FORT WORTH, Texas — Cal Poly wrestling assistant coach Evan Wick qualified for the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials on Sunday at the Fort Worth Convention Center.
Wick, a four-time NCAA Division I All-American, earned a fifth-place finish in the 86-kilogram freestyle weight class at the 2023 Senior Nationals to punch his ticket to the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials on April 19-20 at Penn State.
This is the second time Wick has qualified for the Olympic Team Trials. In 2021, he finished fourth at the Olympic Trials while wrestling at 74 kilograms.
Wick, who is in his second year as an assistant on the Mustang coaching staff, transferred to Cal Poly in 2021 for his final season of collegiate wrestling. Wick, who represented Titan Mercury Wrestling Club and SoCal RTC at Senior Nationals, posted a 23-1 record in his lone season as a Mustang (2021-22) and captured third at the 2022 NCAA Championships at 165 pounds to secure All-American honors for the fourth time in his career.
Wick wrestled at Wisconsin (2016-21) prior to transferring to Cal Poly and finished his collegiate career with a 133-22 overall record.
