SAN LUIS OBISPO – Bolstering its future backcourt depth, the Cal Poly men's basketball program completed the signing of 6-1 point guard Aaron Powell (Los Angeles, Calif. / Campbell Hall HS) to a National Letter of Intent with the anticipation of joining the Mustangs ahead of the 2024-25 season.
"We're excited to add such a dynamic and explosive player in Aaron Powell," fifth-year Cal Poly head coach John Smith said. "Aaron is a four-star recruit and someone we feel could make an immediate impact with his ability to score at all three levels.
"He's a very cerebral point guard who can really stretch the floor, which is an asset we coveted in this class. Aaron's athleticism and speed, matched with his IQ, is the reason we feel he could make his presence felt the moment he steps foot on campus. Mustang Nation will love watching this speedy guard create tempo on both ends of the floor for us."
As a junior at Campbell Hall HS (Studio City, Calif.) last season, Powell averaged 17.2 points, 3.9 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game.
A four-year letterwinner and multi-year captain at Campbell Hall, Powell scored in double-digits in 24 of 25 appearances last season with the only blemish a nine-point night January night versus Windward School. He also shot 82.0 percent from the free throw line as a junior.
