Mustangs Drop Saturday Home Decision to Cal State Fullerton

SAN LUIS OBISPO – Junior forward Brantly Stevenson led the Cal Poly men's basketball program with 13 points Saturday evening and junior guard Kobe Sanders added 11, but Cal State Fullerton – after sinking 10 three-pointers and leading for the final 35 minutes – handed the Mustangs a 65-36 setback inside Mott Athletics Center.
Senior guard Trevon Taylor grabbed a game high six rebounds for Cal Poly (7-15, 1-9), which fell behind Cal State Fullerton (12-11, 6-5) early in the first half after being kept to just two field goals during the opening 10 minutes. Held to a to a 29.2 (14-for-48) percent field goal mark, Cal Poly trailed by 21 points at halftime and drew no closer to the Titans during the second half.
Cal Poly continues action on Thursday, Feb. 2 when visiting UC Santa Barbara at 7 p.m.
A Stevenson three-pointer handed Cal Poly a 5-2 lead after three-and-a-half minutes, but the Mustangs missed their next three attempts from distance and fell behind midway through the first half, 16-6.
Keeping Cal Poly to an 18.1 (2-for-11) percent shooting start, Cal State Fullerton stretched its first-half lead as far as 23 points. The Titans, who sank seven first-half three pointers and shot 61.9 (13-for-21) percent from the floor, took a 37-16 advantage into the break.
Into the second half, Cal State Fullerton converted three of its opening four three-point attempts to further the lead and establish the widest margin of the night at 49-18.
