SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Alex McKenna drove in four runs with a double and two home runs Sunday. Mitch Haniger continues his hot streak at the plate following his return to the Seattle Mariners' lineup. And Mark Mathias has a .524 batting average for the Texas Rangers.
The trio of former Cal Poly baseball players highlight the performance of ex-Mustangs in the professional ranks over the weekend.
McKenna, who hit safely in 13 of 16 games from July 10 through August 4, went 3-for-4 Sunday against Amarillo, leading Corpus Christi to a 6-5 victory. McKenna currently is hitting ..241 with 24 RBIs in 46 games.
Mathias, traded to Texas from Milwaukee on August 1, hit .345 in eight games at Round Rock before his call-up to the Rangers on August 15. Since then, he has gone 11-for-21 (.524) in seven games and, in his last three contests, is 7-for-12 (.583) with five RBIs.
Meanwhile, Taylor Dollard picked up his 13th and 14th victories of the year in the last seven days with the Arkansas Travelers. He is 14-2 with a 2.02 ERA and 117 strikeouts over 129 innings. Dollard leads the Texas League in wins and is seventh in strikeouts.
Shortstop Brooks Lee is hitting .322 at Cedar Rapids with two home runs and seven RBIs in 14 games. He singled three times against Lake County on Sunday.
Outfielder Nick Torres, who hit .377 in 73 games with the Vaqueros de la Laguna in the Mexican League this summer, has been invited to play for the Naranjeros de Hermosillo in the Mexican Pacific ARCO League this winter.
Erich Uelmen has pitched just twice in the last week for the Chicago Cubs and sports a 2-1 record and 2.25 ERA in 13 appearances on the mound overall.
Four Mustangs are currently on Major League rosters -- Uelmen with the Cubs, Mathias with the Rangers, Haniger with the Mariners and pitcher Spencer Howard, who remains on the 15-day disabled list with impingement in his right shoulder. Howard is eligible to be activated and is on a throwing program in an effort to return.
Mustangs in Triple-A include Torres (Laguna) and pitcher Joey Wagman (Reynosa) in the Mexican League and pitcher Justin Bruihl (Dodgers). Those in Double-A include catcher Nick Meyer (Binghamton), McKenna (Corpus Christi), Dollard (Arkansas) and outfielder Bradlee Beesley (Tennessee), currently on the 60-day disabled list.
