SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Cal Poly redshirt freshman shortstop Brooks Lee has earned his third Big West Conference Field Player of the Week award for the 2021 season.
Lee went 9-for-18 at the plate, lifting his batting average to .337, as Cal Poly swept a four-game Big West series against Cal State Fullerton over the weekend inside Baggett Stadium.
Among his hits were four doubles and his first collegiate grand slam, which came in the sixth inning of Saturday's first game of a doubleheader and broke open a 4-2 contest.
In the series, Lee scored five times and drove in seven runs. Six of his RBIs came in the doubleheader opener as he added a two-run double in the seventh inning to his grand slam.
The San Luis Obispo High School graduate produced multiple hits in three of the four games to increase his team-leading total to 20 multiple-hit games this season. Lee also leads the team in multiple-RBI contests with 13.
Lee leads the Big West in doubles (21), RBIs (46), total bases (115) and fielding assists (141) and is No. 2 in sacrifice flies (6) and slugging percentage (.605) and third in home runs with eight.
Nationally, Lee is No. 3 with 21 doubles, 14th with six sacrifice flies, No. 39 with 115 total bases, 56th with 64 hits and No. 69 with his 46 RBIs.
Cal Poly swept Cal State Fullerton for the first time since the Mustangs' Big West championship season in 2014 and for just the second time since 1973. Cal Poly is 13-9 against the Titans over the last seven full seasons and is 17-14 in the last 10 campaigns against the four-time national champion Titans.
Lee earned his first Big West weekly award when he went 7-for-12 with two doubles, a pair of home runs and seven RBIs versus Utah Valley on March 5-7. Lee earned the award a second time the following week (March 12-14) by going 7-for-14 with seven RBIs against UCLA.
In mid-April, Lee was added to USA Baseball's 2021 Golden Spikes Award midseason watch list, an honor that goes to the top amateur baseball player in the country. A week later, Lee landed within a group of 100 on the watch list for College Baseball Foundation's 2021 Brooks Wallace Award, which goes to the top shortstop in NCAA Division I.
In addition, Lee has been named to D1Baseball.com's Midseason All-American Team. Prior to the start of the 2021 season, Lee earned a spot on Perfect Game's Big West Preseason All-Conference Team.
Earning Big West Pitcher of the Week honors was CSUN sophomore Gavin Lizik as he hurled his first career complete game and shutout in a 12-0, seven-inning run-rule victory over Hawai'i in Saturday's first game of a doubleheader.
The seven innings pitched are a career-high as are his nine strikeouts. Lizik allowed two hits and a pair of walks.
Cal Poly plays its final road series of the year this weekend, visiting UC Davis for a four-game Big West set Friday through Sunday.
