VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Brooks Lee belted a sixth-inning grand slam, drove in six runs, and Cole Cabrera produced Cal Poly's first five-hit game in three years as the Mustangs defeated Cal State Fullerton 13-3 in the first game of a Big West Conference baseball doubleheader Saturday afternoon inside Baggett Stadium.
Lee sent the first pitch from Titan reliever Peyton Jones over the left-center field wall to break open a 4-2 contest. It was Lee's eighth home run of the year, his third as a right-handed hitter, and he added a two-run double in the seventh to lift his RBI total for the year to 45.
Lee's six RBIs surpassed his previous single-game high of five against CSUN on March 22.
Cal Poly's last grand slam was by Elijah Skipps in 2018 against UC Davis.
Cabrera singled five times in a 5-for-6 day at the plate, just the second five-hit game by a Mustang in eight years. Nick Meyer had five hits against Pepperdine in 2018.
Andrew Alvarez (6-3) produced another quality start, allowing two runs and seven hits over six innings for the victory. Alvarez struck out three and walked two, throwing 102 pitches.
The loss went to Ryan Hare (0-4) as he allowed four runs and five hits in one inning.
Catcher Myles Emmerson lifted his batting average back above .300 with four hits, including a double. Nick Marinconz doubled twice, driving in two runs, and Taison Corio added two singles.
Cal Poly's 18 hits is a season high, surpassing the 17 hits in a 13-12 loss to UCLA in early March.
Zach Lew, Austin Schell, Miguel Ortiz and Nate Nankil all had two of Cal State Fullerton's 10 hits.
Second game of the doubleheader begins at 4:45 p.m. with southpaw Travis Weston on the mound for Cal Poly.
