No. 6 Mustangs Win Pair of Matches in Bakersfield Saturday

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Following a nine day layoff in between matches, the Cal Poly beach volleyball team returned to action by winning both of its matches Saturday in Bakersfield.
The No. 6 Mustangs (5-3) took down The Master's University 4-1 before later defeating CSU Bakersfield also by a score of 4-1.
Against The Master's University, Cal Poly went with four pairs who were playing together for the first time this season.
At the No. 5 spot, Cal Poly's Piper Naess and Delaney Peranich took down Kylie Clouse and Alicia Castillo 21-7, 21-12. They are now 3-2 together this season.
The Mustangs' No. 4 pair of freshman Sam Strah and redshirt sophomore Eleonore Johansen beat Gwen Garate and Anna Poole in dominant fashion 21-8, 21-8.
At the No. 3 spot, Cal Poly's Marissa Harrison and Erika Foreman picked up their first win together with a 21-12, 21-7 victory over Tara Delk and Hannah Wood.
The No. 2 pair of redshirt sophomore Hannah Rogers and redshirt freshman Laurie McGrath also won their first match together after getting a 21-13, 21-14 win over Hannah Douglas and Kasie Spencer.
The Master's University only win of the match came from the No. 1 spot after Cal Poly's Kalee Graff and Peyton Sper were forced to forfeit due to an injury that occurred during the second set.

Against CSU Bakersfield, the Mustangs' Johansen and Strah played at the No. 5 spot and beat the Roadrunners' Leisa Elisaia and Jazleigh Ortiz in three sets 22-20, 19-21, 15-12 to become 2-0 as a pair together this season.
At the No. 3 spot, redshirt junior Mariah Whalen made her season debut, pairing with fellow redshirt junior Tia Miric. The two went on to win their match 21-13, 21-16 over CSU Bakersfield Alaina Gendale and Hayley McCluskey 21-13, 21-16.
At the No. 2 position, Cal Poly's Amy Ozee and Jayelin Lombard improved to 4-3 together this season after a 21-19, 24-22 victory over Emily Hansen and Hana Makonova.
The 4-1 win for Cal Poly was sealed after the No. 1 pairing of redshirt senior Emily Sonny and redshirt junior Macy Gordon beat Cameron Solberg and Milica Vukobrat 21-12, 21-9 to also move to 4-3 together this year.
The Mustangs will look to make it a 3-0 weekend Sunday when traveling down to Malibu for a 12 p.m. match against No. 8 Pepperdine.
