2021-22 CAL POLY WRESTLING SCHEDULE
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Five home dual meets and visits to several tournaments that were not held in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic highlight the 2021-22 Cal Poly wrestling schedule announced Wednesday.
Coach Jon Sioredas' Mustangs will host San Francisco State outdoors on the Richard O'Neill Green as part of the Stampede Club Barbecue prior to Cal Poly's season-ending football game against Northern Arizona on Nov. 20.
The dual meet begins at 3 p.m., with the football contest to kick off at 5 o'clock.
Also on the home schedule for the Mustangs are dual meets against Northern Colorado on Jan. 7, Arizona State on Jan. 21 and Air Force and CSU Bakersfield in a three-way meet Feb. 13.
"We are incredibly excited about this year's schedule," said Sioredas. "Every decision we made while constructing our competition schedule was made to provide our student-athletes with the best opportunity at the NCAA Championships.
"We have a host of dual meets in January and February, including matches against three Top 25 programs," Sioredas added. "Plus, our fifth annual Alumni Weekend and Crab Feed Benefit will take place on January 7-8, where we celebrate the past, present, and future of Mustang Wrestling."
Cal Poly opens the season Nov. 6 at the Michigan State Open and will compete in the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational on Dec. 3-4. Selected Mustangs also will compete in the Midlands Championships Dec. 29-30 in Evanston, Illinois.
"Our first quarter of competition includes three major events, where our guys will see many, if not most, of the top 25-ranked wrestlers at each individual weight," Sioredas said. "This will provide ample opportunities to qualify the weight and secure seeds for the NCAA Championships."
The Mustangs will wrestle dual meets on the road Jan. 30 against Little Rock and Northern Illinois in Arkansas, Feb. 4 at Oregon State and Feb. 19 at Stanford.
Arizona State will host the Pac-12 Championships on March 5, with the NCAA Division I National Championships slated for March 17-19 at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Mich.
Cal Poly is ranked No. 17 in WIN Magazine's preseason Tournament Power Index and No. 20 in InterMat's Team Tournament Rankings.
