MUSTANG HOOPS WEEKLY GAME PROGRAM
SAN LUIS OBISPO – The Cal Poly men's basketball program hosts its second West Coast Conference opponent in a five-day span when welcoming Santa Clara to Mott Athletics Center on Wednesday, Dec. 9. Tip time is 6 p.m.
Cal Poly (1-1), opening the season with a scheduled five-game home stand, returns to action after dropping an 88-60 decision to San Francisco (Dec. 4). Wednesday's matchup marks Santa Clara's first road game of the year. After sweeping all three opponents at the program's own Bronco Invitational (Nov. 25, 27-28), Santa Clara defeated CSU Bakersfield, 53-47, in a Dec. 2, neutral-site contest in Santa Cruz.
Wednesday's meeting marks Santa Clara's third game against a Big West Conference opponent this year after edging UC Davis (66-63) and CSU Bakersfield.
Cal Poly opened the 2019-20 season at Santa Clara, falling in head coach John Smith's first official game, 77-63. Wednesday's game marks just Santa Clara's third all-time visit to Cal Poly. The Mustangs prevailed during the previous two visits, most recently handing Santa Clara a 64-53 defeat on Dec. 7, 2013. Santa Clara leads the all-time series, 5-4, dating to the first matchup between the two sides on Dec. 13, 1978.
Individually, graduate forward Riley Till leads Cal Poly in both scoring and rebounding at 12.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per outing. He also tops the Mustangs with a 75.0 (9-for-12) percent field goal mark.
Freshman Kobe Sanders, who started his first collegiate game versus San Francisco on Friday, is one of two Mustangs averaging 9.5 points per game alongside senior wing Mark Crowe. Sanders is also shooting 58.3 percent from the floor and 50.0 percent from three-point range.
Following Wednesday's matchup, Cal Poly concludes its five-game home stand when hosting San Jose State on Sunday, Dec. 13 (1 p.m.) and San Diego on Wednesday, Dec. 16 (3 p.m.).
