
Cal Poly Beach Volleyball Falls to LMU and UCLA

LOS ANGELES – The Cal Poly beach volleyball team went 0-2 on Wednesday, as they fell to Loyola Marymount 3-2 and No. 3 UCLA 4-1 in Los Angles, Calif.
The Mustangs started competition against LMU, where they pushed the Lions to the end but couldn't hold on.
The Mustangs' No. 2 pair of Adlee Van Winden and Taylor Nelson put Cal Poly's first point on the board, as they beat Kekai Whitford and Britt Estes 21-18, 21-19.
Savannah Niemen and Anna Gorman, the Mustangs' No. 4 pair, defeated Emma Doud and Veronica Nederend 21-16, 21-18, giving Cal Poly a 2-0 lead.
The No. 1 pair of Emily Sonny and Hannah Hubbard fell to Sara Sponcil and Savannah Slattery 21-14, 21-9, while the No. 3 pair of Raeann Greisen and Heather Pembroke fell to Jess Prichard and Sara Kovac.
Tied at 2-2, Dora Beilin and Holland Boege fell to Kristen Castellanos and Erin Williams at the No. 5 spot, 21-18, 21-13, clinching the match for LMU.
Down 1-0 on the day, the Mustangs took on the Bruins.
Van Winden and Nelson put the first point of the match on the board, as they beat Kamila Tan and Madi Yeomans 21-18, 21-18.
Niemen and Gorman lost their first set but came back to win their second, forcing a third set where the battled but lost to Jordin Anderson and Izzy Carey 21-14, 18-21, 15-6.
Greisen and Pembroke fell to Torrey Van Winden and Elise Zappia 21-13, 21-12.
Emily Sonny and Hannah Hubbard forced Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamara to three sets but fell short, 21-17, 19,21, 15-6, clinching the match for the Bruins.
Taylor Gruenewald and Brayden Gruenewald moved from the exhibition spot to the No. 5 spot where they took on Lily Justine and Savvy Simo, but fell 21-17, 21-15.
