HONOLULU, Hawaii – Freshman shortstop Kyle Marinconz produced his first four-hit game as a Mustang, driving in a pair of runs, as Cal Poly evened its Big West Conference baseball series at a game apiece with a 5-4 victory over Hawaii on Saturday night before 3,881 in Les Murakami Stadium.
Coach Larry Lee's Mustangs squandered a 4-1 lead but tallied the go-ahead run in the eighth inning and held on for the series-evening victory, improving to 20-13 for the year and 3-2 in Big West games.
Hawaii, which had won 11 of its last 14 games after a 6-12 start, falls to 17-16 for the year and 6-2 in the Big West.
Hawaii scored an unearned run in the second inning on a dropped fly ball in left-center field.

Hawaii tallied two in the fourth and one in the fifth to tie the game at 4-4 and it remained that way until the eighth when, with two outs, Brett Binning walked, Alex McKenna was hit by a pitch and Marinconz's fourth hit, a single to left-center field, scored Binning with the go-ahead run.
Mustang sophomore right-hander Erich Uelmen remained 4-0 on the year with his third consecutive no-decision, walking two and striking out three over 6 2/3 innings. Three of the four runs he gave up were earned.
