
Cal Poly Falls to No. 10 Arizona in Program's Home Debut

PISMO BEACH, Calif. – Hosting the program's inaugural home event, the Cal Poly sand volleyball team fell to No. 10 Arizona on Saturday afternoon in Pismo Beach, 5-0. The opening segment of the two-day event featured a team dual competition against the Wildcats, who improved to 4-0 overall this season.
The Cal Poly freshman tandem of Taylor Nelson and Raeann Greisen won the opening set against Madi Kingdon and Kaitlyn Leary, only to watch Arizona come back and win in three, 21-17, 16-21, and 12-15. Kingdon and Leary improved to 4-0 at No. 1 pairs this season, while Nelson and Greisen fell to 0-3.
In the second position, Cal Poly junior Nicole Kessler and freshman Caihla Petiprin were ousted in straight sets by McKenna Witt and Madison Witt, 6-21 and 14-21. Arizona's duo remained undefeated this season, moving to 4-0 overall, while Kessler and Petiprin are now 1-2 when paired alongside one another.
Cal Poly sophomore Taylor Gruenewald and junior Anna Gorman – who entered the afternoon undefeated at No. 4 – moved up to the third position for the first time this season, and dropped a straight-set decision to Kendall Polan and Rachel Rhoades, 13-21 and 11-21.
Arizona's tandem of Allie Cook and Taylor Arizobal remained unbeaten this season at No. 4 pairs with a 21-16, 21-16 ousting of Cal Poly's Katie Conroy and Hannah Schleis. Sarah Seiber and Hailey Devlin also remained undefeated at the No. 5 position this season with a two-set (21-14, 21-7) victory over Cal Poly's Shannon Fouts and Casey Carroll.
Cal Poly (0-3) wraps up its home stand against the Wildcats at 9 a.m. Sunday with a pairs tournament in Pismo Beach.
