MALIBU, Calif. – Pepperdine unleashed an 18-hit offensive attack and the No. 17 Waves defeated No. 3/4/5 Cal Poly 11-4 in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday afternoon at windy Eddy D. Field Stadium.

Pepperdine overcame four errors to hand the visiting Mustangs their third straight loss. The Waves are 31-9 on the year while Cal Poly falls to 36-8.

Cal Poly scored single runs in the first two innings but Pepperdine snapped a 2-2 tie with two runs in the second frame and three more in the third en route to its third straight win over the Mustangs.

Junior left fielder Zack Zehner singled in the first inning to drive in a run for Cal Poly and sophomore shortstop Peter Van Gansen's RBI single knotted the score at 2-2 in the second.

After Pepperdine established a 7-2 lead in the third and fourth frames, Cal Poly produced single runs in the fifth and eighth frames. Junior right fielder Nick Torres singled and eventually scored on a Pepperdine error in the fifth and senior third baseman Jimmy Allen homered to left in the eighth, his second round-tripper of the year.

Freshman right-hander Slater Lee (3-2) suffered the loss, allowing four runs and four hits in one-plus inning. A.J. Puckett (1-2) earned the victory, allowing one unearned run and two hits in five innings with two walks and seven strikeouts.

Catcher Aaron Barnett had four of Pepperdine's 18 hits. Third baseman Austin Davidson and first baseman Brad Anderson each added three hits.

Cal Poly's eight hits included the single and home run by Allen (pictured above).

It was about 90 degrees in Malibu and the offshore winds blew at 20 to 30 miles per hour. Cal Poly is now 8-1 in games played on Tuesdays.

Cal Poly wraps up a seven-game road trip with a three-game Big West Conference series at UC Riverside starting Friday night.
