
Cal Poly Earns 5-1 Victory Over USC in Opener of Doubleheader

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Senior catcher Chris Hoo doubled twice, collecting an RBI on each one, and junior southpaw Matt Imhof allowed one run and five hits in seven innings with seven strikeouts as No. 13 Cal Poly defeated No. 29 USC 5-1 in the opening game of a Sunday doubleheader at Dedeaux Field.
Cal Poly collected 10 hits, including two each by Hoo and sophomore second baseman Mark Mathias. Tim Wise and Jordan Ellis both added RBI singles while Brian Mundell contributed a sacrifice fly.
Junior right-hander Reed Reilly pitched the final two innings in relief of Imhof (2-1) and struck out two.
The game was delayed one hour and five minutes in the bottom of the first inning by rain.
Second game of the twinbill is slated to begin at 5:10 p.m.
