STANFORD, Calif. — The Cal Poly cross country teams ran to top-15 finishes at the NCAA West Regional at Stanford Golf Course on Friday.
At the meet featuring the Pac-12, Mountain West and WCC in addition to the Big West Conference, the men's squad was 12th out of 29 programs in the 10K, with a score of 327, after the women were 15th among 34 in the 6K, at 412 points.
To start the races, sophomore Ashley Windsor — two weeks after also pacing the Mustangs at the Big West Championships — recorded the day's top individual finish by a Cal Poly runner: 37th, at 21:13.2.
Freshman Sydney Szabo added a 57th-place time of 21:28.7, ahead of junior teammate Meghan Breadmore (in 75th, at 21:47.0), senior Ashley Bergstrom (87th, 21:52.5), junior Sara Van Dyke (161st, 22:59.9) and freshman Melissa Eisele (189th, 23:29.8).
Luis Morales led the Mustangs in the latter competition, at 42nd, in 30:19.3. It marked the second time in the past three meets that the junior posted a team-best performance.
Clayton Hutchins, a sophomore who has also been in front at three other meets this fall, was 60th, at 30:41.0.
He was just ahead of fellow sophomore Dimitri Voytilla (64th, at 30:45.5) and junior Tyler Huntley (72nd, 30:56.5). Behind that duo were sophomores Riess Haslam (89th, at 31:13.9) and Nick Woolf (121st, 31:46.2), and junior Al Gamez Jr. (144th, 32:27.3).
