
Mustangs Sweep UC Santa Barbara at Lagoon Open

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. –The Cal Poly men's and women's cross country teams swept the UC Santa Barbara in a dual meet at the Lagoon Open on Saturday with the men's team winning 26-29 and the women's team winning in a close battle, 27-28.
Sophomore Laura Hollander opened the 2013 season where she left off last year when she earned All-American honors when she dominated the field with a new course record, 16:36.00, breaking her previous mark set last season of 16:42.12. She outdistanced second place, Dani Moreno, by nearly a minute (17:25.50).
Rachel Bush was the second Mustang to cross the line in fourth place with a time of 18:00.70. Ashley Bergstrom and Mary Jo Wright were sixth and seventh with times of 18:10.10 and 18:15.70.
Ericka Schaffer was ninth with a time of 18:21.30 while Mary Hillis was 13th (18:50.70). Ashley Windsor (16th, 18:56.10), Kasey Urman (22nd, 19:29.80), Michelle Read (23rd, 19:42.70) and Holli Arrietta (24th, 19:52.20) rounded out the Cal Poly field.
Chris Frias paced the Cal Poly men's team with his second place finish. Frias posted a time of 24:25.70 while Sean Davidson in third with a time of 24:54.70.
Mitch Moriarty was the third Mustang to cross the line in fifth with a time of 25:19.90 while Nick Woolf finished eighth (25:39.40).
Dimitry Voytilla was the last scoring Mustang to cross the line and secure the win. Voytilla finished 12th with a time of 25:58.60.
Riess Haslam and Jeff Miles placed 15th and 16th with times of 26:22.10 and 26:24.60 respectively. Tyler Huntly was 18th when he crossed the line in 26:22.10.
The Mustangs will return to action on Sept. 14 at the Fresno State Invitational.
