
Cal Poly Baseball Alumni Game Set for Saturday Afternoon

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- As many as seven members of the 2011 Cal Poly baseball team are expected to compete as alumni against the 2012 Mustangs in the annual Alumni Game on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Baggett Stadium.
Listed on the early roster for the preseason game are outfielder Bobby Crocker, designated hitter DJ Gentile and pitchers Mason Radeke, Steven Fischback, Frankie Reed, Eugene Wright and Jeff Johnson.
Crocker, Radeke, Reed and Johnson all were drafted last June, signed and are in the minor leagues.
Other former Mustangs in the minor leagues expected to play Saturday are Adam Buschini, Jimmy Van Ostrand, Brandon Roberts, Brian Grening, Matt Leonard, Eric Massingham and Logan Schafer, a September callup by the Milwaukee Brewers.
Also expected to play are such past Mustang standouts as Cory Taillon, David Van Ostrand, Ryan Lee, Grant Theophilus, Gilbert Gil, Hal Simons, Dennis LeDuc, Ryan Brennan and Luke Yoder. Former Hancock College head coach Doug Noce also is expected to attend.
The alumni will face a Cal Poly team which returns 16 letter winners, including five position starters and five pitchers, off the 2011 squad which finished 27-26 overall and third in the Big West at 15-9. The 2012 Mustangs roster also has 14 newcomers and four players who were redshirts in 2011.
Cal Poly officially opens its 2012 season Feb. 17-19 with a three-game series against Oklahoma State in Baggett Stadium. Games on Friday and Saturday nights start at 6 o'clock, with Sunday's series finale to begin at 1 p.m.
