Craig Young became Cal Poly’s career rushing leader with 4,205 yards from 1996-99, including a pair of 1,000-yard campaigns in 1997 (1,038 yards) and 1999 (1,380 yards, No. 4 all-time), until Joe Protheroe broke the record in 2018.
Included in all of Young's rushing totals are four 200-yard games, topped by a school-record 283 yards against Saint Mary’s in 1996, and a record 18 100-yard performances. He once rushed for over 100 yards in seven consecutive games.
Young also held the record for career carries (719) and scored 29 touchdowns in his Mustang career, No. 7 on the list. His career high for touchdowns in a single game is four, set against Dayton in 1997.
A 2000 graduate of Cal Poly with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, Young was an assistant coach at Cal Poly, Princeton and Sacramento State before embarking on a career in finance. After working for Morgan Stanley, UBS and Baird, Young currently is Director of Marketing Executive with Merrill Lynch Wealth Management in Pasadena, responsible for offices in Pasadena, Glendale, Bakersfield, Arcadia and Palmdale.
Young and his wife Lucy are parents of two sons, Jackson and Hampton.
