Cal Poly Cross Country set to Compete at NCAA West Pre-View


SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Both the men's and women's cross country teams will be competing this week at the NCAA West Regional Pre-View race hosted by Sacramento State. The meet is scheduled for Friday at the Haggin Oaks Golf Club with the men scheduled to race at 9:30 and the women at 10:30.

Senior Chris Frias is will lead the men's team after placing second (24:25) at the Lagoon Open on Aug. 31 and winning the Fresno State Invitational (19:15).  Frias was the 2012 Big West Conference Male Athlete of the Year when he won the individual crown and led the team to its 12th BWC championship.

Fellow senior Sean Davidson will also compete after third place finish at the Lagoon Open (24:54) and a second place finish at the Fresno State Invitational (19:17).  Junior Mitch Moriarty will compete after finishing fifth at the Lagoon Open (25:19) and third at the Fresno State Invitational (19:34) while freshman Clayton Hutchins finished sixth at the Fresno State Invitational (20:05) and 10th at the Lagoon Open (25:52).

Other members of the men's team expected to compete; Dimitri Voytilla, Jeff Miles, Tyler Huntley, Reiss Haslam, David Galvez and Kyle Lynch.

On the women's side, sophomore Laura Hollander will pace the women's team after winning the Lagoon Open in record time (16:36). Hollander is coming off a ninth place finish at the NCAA Championships as a true freshman in 2012 and was named Big West Conference Female Athlete of the Year after capturing the individual crown in record time while leading the team to the BWC championship.

Sophomore Rachel Bush will also compete after placing second at the Fresno State Invitational (18:14) and fourth at the Lagoon Open (18:00).  Sophomore Ashley Bergstrom will compete after a strong showing and winning at the Fresno State Invitational (18:14) and placing sixth at the Lagoon Open (18:10).

Sophomore Mary Jo Wright will round out the top runners for the Mustangs after a third place finish at the Fresno State Invitational (18:20) and a seventh place finish at the Lagoon Open (18:15).

Others expected to compete for the Mustangs include; Hannah Edwards, Ashley Windsor, Erika Schaeffer, Diana George and Michelle Read
