Cross Country Set to Compete at Fresno State Invitational

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The Cal Poly cross country teams are set to compete in its second meet of the season Saturday after opening at the Lagoon Open on Aug. 31. On Saturday the men's and women's teams will be competing at the Fresno State Invitational with the men's 6k race set for 9 am and the women's 5k race to follow at 9:45 am.

Seniors Chris Frias and Sean Davidson are expected to compete for the Mustangs after finishing second and third at the Lagoon Open. Frias covered the 6k course in a time of 24:25 while Davidson was clocked in 24:54.

Redshirt freshman Nick Woolf and freshman Clayton Hutchins are also expected to compete after posting times of 25:39 and 25:52 respectively in Santa Barbara.

The women's team will be led by sophomore Rachel Bush who posted a time of 18:00 and finished fourth at the Lagoon Open. Fellow sophomore Ashley Bergstrom finished 6th in the race with a time of 18:10 followed by Sophomore Mary Jo Wright in seventh (18:15).

Expected to compete for the first time this season will be Sara Van Dyke and Hanna Edwards.

 Van Dyke competed in four races last season including the Big West Conference Championships with a 40th place finish and a time of 21:54. She also finished eighth at last season's Lagoon Open with a time of 18:16.

Edwards competed in three meets during the 2012 cross country season and qualified for the 2013 BWC championships in the 1500m and finished fifth with a time of 4:34.62.
