SAN LUIS OBISPO – The Mustang volleyball team is back on the road to continue conference play this weekend as it is set to take on Cal State Fullerton on Friday and UC Riverside on Saturday.
After sweeping UC Irvine and UC Santa Barbara last weekend, the Mustangs advance to 10-6 overall and 3-2 in conference play while holding the third place spot in the Big West Conference, right behind Long Beach State and Hawai'i.
Cal Poly is currently leading the Big West Conference in assists with 811 and in kills with 851. The team is second in the conference for hitting percentage with .243, right behind Hawai'i's .255.
Junior Taylor Nelson leads the conference in assists with 696, giving her 11.41 assists per set. Nelson has also tallied 147 digs and 31 total blocks.
Only two Mustangs have reached 200 kills this season, landing them both in the conference's top 10 leaders in kills. Sophomore Adlee Van Winden sits at the No. 6 spot with 217 digs and a .171 attack percentage. Raeann Greisen holds down the No. 10 spot with 200 and a .243 attack percentage.
Van Winden and Greisen aren't the only two to boast triple digits, Alexis Clewis and senior Taylor Gruenewald have also been huge assets in the team's 851 total kills, Clewis with 168 and a .286 attack percentage and Gruenewald with 143 and a .387 attack percentage.
Cal Poly holds a .243 attack percentage compared to their average opponents' of .227.
The Mustangs have 112.5 total blocks this season, 44 of them coming from Gruenewald, 31 from Nelson and 30 from Greisen.
Sophomore Katherine Brouker sets herself apart from the rest of the team in digs, as she is the only one to tally over 200, with 238 of the team's 874.
Freshman Jessica McRoskey is leading the Big West in conference matches in service aces with nine, giving her a .5 average per set.
Cal Poly holds an impressive record over CSF since they first met in 1979, leading with a 50-10 record. The Mustangs beat the Titans in their last two matches in 2015 and went 1-1 in 2014.
The Mustangs didn't meet with UC Riverside until 2001, but have maintained a winning record since, leading the Highlanders 22-8. Cal Poly has not lost a match to Riverside since their 2013 season.
The Mustangs take the court in Fullerton on Friday Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. and then in Riverside on Saturday Oct. 15 at 7 p.m.
