Volleyball Controls UCR in Four Sets

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Cal Poly volleyball team defeated the UC Riverside Highlanders in four sets on Friday at the Student Recreation Center on Friday. With the win Cal Poly improves to 7-8 in Big West Conference matches and 12-16 overall. UCR falls to 4-11 in conference matches and 7-22 overall. 

Set scores went 25-21, 25-16, 21-25 and 25-13.

Junior Jennifer Keddy led the team with 18 kills while sophomore Kristina Graven added a solid 12 kills. Junior Molly Pon checked in with seven kills with Megan McConnell adding six. 

UCR was led by Amanda Vialando with 18 kills with Bianca Endersby and Shelby Leduff adding 13 kills each.

Catie Smith led Cal Poly with 11 digs with Lauren Law adding nine. Sarah Cawrse checked in with six digs to go along with her 42 assists. 

Keddy's kills came on 43 swings with five errors (302), but it was Graven who dominated the match with her 12 kills coming on 26 swings with just one hitting error (.423). She also added eight digs while Keddy added seven digs and four blocks.

Cal Poly as a team had only 48 kills compared to 60 by the Highlanders but Cal Poly committed only 16 hitting errors while UCR was tallied for 25. The Mustangs hit .237 for the match with UCR hitting .238. 

Cal Poly was credited with eight service aces compared to three for UCR.

The Mustangs will conclude the regular season on Saturday when the team travels to Cal State Northridge for a Big West Conference match on Saturday.
