UCSB Tops Volleyball in Three

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Cal Poly volleyball team dropped a Big West Conference match in three sets at UC Santa Barbara on Saturday. Set scores in the loss went 25-15, 25-22 and 25-21. With the loss the Mustangs fall to 11-16 overall and 6-8 in Big West matches while UCSB improves to 16-11 and 9-5.

The loss for the Mustangs was payback for the Gauchos who defeated Cal Poly in five sets in Oct. 

Junior Jennifer Keddy was the lone Mustang with double figure kills with 18 with senior Catie Smith and sophomore Kristina Graven each adding five.

Leah Sully and Stacey Schmidt led the Gauchos with 14 kills each while Lily Lopez tallied 12. 

UCSB hit .206 while limiting the Mustangs to a .127 hitting percentage. The Gauchos recorded five aces compared to one for the Mustangs and outblocked Cal Poly 7-5.

Smith led the Mustangs with 17 digs with fellow senior adding 15. Senior Sarah Cawrse recorded 11 digs to go along with her 30 assists. 

Chelsey Lowe led all players with 25 digs with Kara Sherrard adding 15.

The Mustangs will return to the court and remain on the road for a match at UC Riverside on Nov. 18.
