STOCKTON, Calif. – The Cal Poly volleyball team was swept in three sets on the road by the Pacific Tigers Friday night in Stockton. With the loss the Mustangs fall to 10-13 overall and 5-5 in conference play while Pacific improves to 15-8 and 6-4.
Cal Poly returns to the court on Saturday when the team travels to UC Davis for a Big West Conference match at 7 pm.
The Mustangs trailed by as many as four in the first set (14-10) when Cal Poly rallied to close the gap and tied it up (14-14) on a kill by Catie Smith.
Pacific stretched it out its lead to four at 19-15 on an attack error by Smith and went on to win 25-19 on a kill by Megan Birch.
The second set was all Pacific as the Tigers moved out to a 16-7 lead on an ace by Gabby Cowden. The Mustangs cut into the lead on an assisted block by Keddy and Walters to make the score 17-9, but the Tigers went on to control the set 25-16.
The third set went the way of the Tigers 25-18, revenging a three set loss to the Mustangs in Mott Gym earlier this season.
Keddy led the Mustangs with 11 kills with Kristina Graven adding seven. Smith helped out with four as the Mustangs hit just .152 for the match.
Pacific held the advantage in every category with the exception of digs (tied at 55-55) and blocks (Cal Poly 6-5).
Pacific tallied 51 kills to the Mustangs 29, hit .315 to Cal Poly's .152 and held a 47-27 advantage in assists.
The Tigers were led by Samantha Misa with 15 kills while Jennifer Sanders added 14. Misa and Katy Tagart each had 11 digs to lead Pacific.
