OREM, UT -- The Cal Poly volleyball team lost in four sets to Santa Clara in the first match of the LaQuinta Inn & Suites Invitational hosted by Utah Valley University.
Set scores went 25-22, 25-23, 20-25 and 25-22.
With the loss Cal Poly falls to 3-2 while Santa Clara improves to 3-1 on the year.
Sophomore Kristina Graven led the team with 18 kills on 44 swing with three errors with a hitting percentage of .341.
Junior Jenifer Keddy added 14 kills on 28 swings.
Cal Poly as a team hit .209 while Santa Clara hit .272.
Kyala Lammori led the Broncos with 15 kills while Kaieigh Kurket added 14 kills and Taylor Milton chipped in with 11 kills off the bench.
Cal Poly hit ..171 in the first set and .231 in the second while hitting .270 in the third. The Mustangs hit only .129 in the fourth set.
Santa Clara hit .390, 314 and .156 before hitting .243 in the fourth.
The Mustangs will return to the court Sept. 3rd when they take on host Utah Valley at 12:00 pm.
