Boyden Earns Big West Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week Honor

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — After going 3-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles last week in the Cal Poly women's tennis team's three matches, junior Susanne Boyden was named the Big West Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week.

In the Mustangs' 4-3 loss to San Francisco, Boyden rebounded from a first set loss to win the next two and defeat the Dons' Rita Colyer, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 3 singles spot.

She then moved up to the No. 2 singles position for the next two matches, winning both in straight sets. She first knocked off conference foe UC Davis' Sara Tsukamoto 6-4, 6-0. Boyden also helped Cal Poly defeat Pacific 4-3 with her 6-2, 6-3 victory against Roos Nederstigt.

She also paired with Grace Olyphant at No. 3 doubles, picking up wins over San Francisco and Pacific.

For the season, Boyden is 4-0 in singles and 4-0 in doubles. Her four singles wins are tied for the most on the team.

The Mustangs continue road play this weekend when they travel to Southern California for two Big West matches. Cal Poly will face UC Riverside Saturday and Long Beach State Sunday. Both matches start at 11 a.m.
