SAN JOSE, Calif. — The Cal Poly women's tennis team was edged out on the road at San Jose State Sunday 5-2 to wrap up its first weekend of the dual season.

The Spartans (2-0) took the doubles point after wins at both the No. 1 and No. 2 position. However, the Mustangs' No. 3 doubles pairing of freshman Emily Ackerman and sophomore Grace Olyphant won their match 7-5 for their first doubles win of the season.

Cal Poly got off to a strong start in singles after junior Emily Louie-Meadors won the first match of the day at the No. 1 spot in straight sets 6-0, 6-3 to tie the score at 1-1. Louie-Meadors is now 2-0 in singles to begin the season.

San Jose State went on to win the next three singles matches to secure the victory. However, another bright spot for the Mustangs (0-2) was freshman Kimberley Bhunu (pictured), who won her match at the No. 2 position in three sets 6-4, 5-7, 1-0.

Cal Poly will look for its first win next weekend when the Mustangs travel to Santa Barbara for two neutral site matches. There they will face Alabama Saturday at 3 p.m. and Gonzaga Sunday at 2 p.m.
