Women’s Tennis Team Inks Molly Reed to National Letter of Intent

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Third-year head coach Damon Coupe solidified the Cal Poly women's tennis team's future lineup with the recent announcement from the Mustang Athletics Department that Molly Reed (Sheffield, England) has signed a National Letter of Intent with anticipation of joining the program for the 2014-15 season.

Ranked nationally as the No. 4 player at U-18 level and No. 51 overall female player, Reed finished as a quarterfinalist in the 2013 U-18 National Tour Finals championship. The U-18 champion of her county at 15 years of age, Reed owns two singles victories versus top-400 ITF-ranked players and four wins against top-800 competitors.

Part of the 2013 Independent Schools Tennis Association title-winning doubles duo, Reed has reached the doubles semifinals of the British Junior National Championships, in addition to combing for three doubles victories against top-300 ITF-ranked teams.

At the team level, Reed assisted her England Schools side to a silver medal at the 2013 World Schools National Championships in Australia. Domestically during the last year, Reed has helped her Yorkshire County side to the U-18 County Cup National Championship, her Queenswood School squad to the Aegon Team Tennis Schools National Championship and her club team to the Bolton Arena U-18 Team Tennis National Championship.

"Molly is extremely talented and a fierce competitor," said Coupe, who returns seven letterwinners from Cal Poly's 2012-13 squad for the 2014 spring season. "She's all about hard work and is only getting better. She loves to be on the court and knows she can still grow as a player. We know she'll fit in instantly and make a big impact in our lineup. We're excited for her to be a Mustang."

Following a three-tournament fall schedule, Cal Poly opens its 2014 spring slate at the Jan. 17-19 California Winter Invitational in Berkeley, Calif. Cal Poly's first dual match of the year comes when hosting San Francisco on Mustang Courts on Saturday, Jan. 25.
